L’Église Saint-Georges
L’architecte Pierre Bossan, qui a construit cette église néogothique de style flamboyant au milieu du XIXe siècle, disait que « c’était son péché de jeunesse ». Il a conservé au chevet quelques éléments de l’église primitive élevée ici en 550, restaurée sous Charlemagne et occupée par les Chevaliers de Malte au Moyen Âge. Au-dessus du portail, le sculpteur Charles Dufraine a représenté Saint-Georges terrassant le dragon. De chaque côté, Saint-Pierre et Saint-Jean l’Évangéliste.
Saint-Georges’ Church
The architect Pierre Bossan, who built this church in the Flamboyant neo-Gothic style in the middle years of the 19th century, referred to the building as his «youthful indiscretion». He retained at the chevet a few elements of the primitive church erected here in 550, restored in the time of Charlemagne and occupied by the Knights of Malta in the Middle Ages. Above the doorway is the sculptor Charles Dufraine’s representation of St George slaying the dragon, flanked by St Peter and St John the Evangelist.
