Fort Saint-Irénée
Cet ouvrage de la première ceinture fortifiée de Lyon, construit entre 1831 et 1841, commandait l’ensemble des forts de la rive droite de la Saône (Sainte‑Foy, Loyasse, la Duchère, Vaise). Entre 1921 et 1940, il a abrité l’Institut franco‑chinois, qui forma plusieurs générations d’étudiants chinois. Il est devenu, en 1945, résidence universitaire. L’École de théâtre de la rue Blanche à Paris (École normale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre) a été transférée ici en 1997.
The Fort of Saint-Irénée
This fort dates back to the time of the first fortifications of Lyon, built between 1831 and 1841, and commanded all of the forts on the right bank of the river Saône (Sainte-Foy, Loyasse, la Duchère, Vaise). Between 1921 and 1940, it housed the Franco-Chinese Institute which trained several generations of Chinese students. In 1945, it became a university hall of residence. The theatrical school from rue Blanche in Paris (Higher National College of Performing Arts and Techniques) was transferred here in 1997.
