Le Palais Saint-Jean
Demeure épiscopale depuis le Moyen Âge, le Palais Saint-Jean a été complètement transformé par Soufflot en 1750, puis par Chenavard et les frères Desjardins au XIXe siècle. Au-dessus de la bibliothèque d’arrondissement, les Archives municipales et l’Académie de Lyon occupent aujourd’hui ce palais. Les beaux salons, décorés en 1761 par Toussaint Loyer, sont ouverts au public à l’occasion d’expositions. L’immeuble de gauche qui ferme la cour intérieure a été construit par Decrénice à la fin du XVIIIe siècle : on l’appelle « la nouvelle Manécanterie ». Ancien palais des chanoines-comtes de Lyon, il comporte un très bel escalier et une salle capitulaire.
Palais Saint-Jean
An episcopal residence from the Middle Ages, the palace was completely transformed by Soufflot in 1750 and again by Chenavard and the Desjardins brothers in the 19th century. The palace is today occupied by the Municipal Archives and the Academy of Lyon, above the district library. The handsome salons, decorated by Toussaint Loyer in 1761, are open to the public when exhibitions are staged. The building to the left closing off the inner courtyard was built by Decrénice towards the end of the 18th century. Known as the «Nouvelle Manécanterie» («New Choir School»), this former palace of the canon-counts of Lyon contains an exceedingly beautiful staircase and a chapter house.
